in Today's class we had to summerise our topic and inequality in one sentence and explain our topic to other people to see what sentence they would come up with.
the key word for mine was consent, however people could not fully grasp the idea of the inequality of the rape culture in New Zeland.
refinement of idea:
-equality around power
-equality for safety
-sexual equality
key word: consent:
the right to feel safe
communication is key
looking up to the media, they influence our views on women.
try a call for action or try to raise awarness is a key aspect of the posters
After that we started ideating for our posters based on random objects or pharses given to us:
after this class I realised that my idea of the Rape culture as a societal issue did not fully fit under the umbrella of inequality or equality in New zealand. As this was the main issue I was interested in raising around gender inequality I decided to restart a mindmap and start from square one.
As I was talking to my flatmate, currently studying sociology about her media paper, we raised the issue of child poverty in NZ, which I had never considered a very big issue until I looked up some facts and statistics:
1 in 4 children live without the basics in Nz
in 2014 13% of students left secondary school with no qualifications
material depravation
those children have a poor health, poor educational outcomes, poor cognitive, psychological and social functioning

these children have a hard time concentrating at shcool, which lowers there potential and slowly pulls them back into the cycle of poverty, just because they cannot have the essentials like food or warmth
to summarise my topic in one sentence: I want to raise the issue of material depravation in child poverty( and possibly further go into the impact it has on low socioeconomic children's learning abilities) in comparison to the ones without those struggles.
ideation of this new topic:
pick 2 thumbnail and turn them into A4 posters:
